NaNoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month, is a yearly challenge for authors to write a first draft of their novels during the month of November. Students choose a word count goal and set out to reach that goal before November 30. NaNoWriMo is a GREAT way to get experience with writing longer projects.
The best way to have a successful and productive NaNoWriMo experience is to prepare! We'd love to help students build confidence and technique so that they feel motivated to start and continue their novels through November and beyond. Join us for any or all of our Novel Week events!

Reading Giraffe is a literacy program based on the power of picture books. Reading aloud is considered the single most important activity leading to literacy acquisition. By making books interactive, fun, and ACTIVE adventures, we strive to create lifelong readers who keep searching for the next great book!
Our curriculum uses The Whole Book Approach from The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art to create a COLLABORATIVE, SHARED reading experience.
Cross Spell uses letter mats to spell out our themes.
Tower Time (Did you know a group of giraffes is a tower?) Readalouds become a study of art, plot, and vocabulary, while facilitated
discussions spur analytical thinking.
Fit Lit gets students active with high-energy games tied to the
stories, and Walk-Abouts have classes moving & reading.
Giraffe-tivities engage students’ imaginations with creative, STEMbased projects.
Students can Act Out , role-playing their favorite characters.
We’ll create our own tall tales in Build-A-Book.
Join us for a fun reading adventure! Each Reading Giraffe class is different, so come as often as you'd like!

Throughout the four sessions, we will explore many different types of poetry and practice writing our own. By the end of the workshop, we will create a class poetry anthology to celebrate all that we have learned.
